Course overview Our Basic rigging & signaling safety training is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to safely perform basic rigging activities and effectively communicate during lifting operations. Through classroom instruction and practical discussions, participants will learn fundamental rigging principles, proper selection and inspection of rigging equipment, hand signals, communication methods, load control techniques, and hazard recognition during lifting activities. The course emphasizes OSHA requirements, industry best practices, and the importance of teamwork between operators, riggers, and signal persons to maintain safe lifting operations. Who should attend? Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to: Understand the responsibilities of a basic rigger and signal person. Identify common hazards associated with lifting and rigging operations. Recognize different types of rigging equipment and their proper applications. Perform basic inspections of slings, shackles, hooks, and other rigging components. Understand load weight considerations, center of gravity, and load control principles. Apply proper hand signals and communication methods during lifting operations. Understand the importance of clear communication between the operator, rigger, and signal person. Recognize damaged or defective rigging equipment that should be removed from service. Apply safe work practices to reduce struck-by, caught-between, and dropped-object hazards. Understand OSHA requirements and industry best practices related to basic rigging and signaling. Why this training matters? Lifting and rigging operations involve significant hazards that can result in serious injuries, equipment damage, or property loss if not performed correctly. Proper training helps employees recognize hazards, improve communication, and apply safe rigging practices to support safer and more efficient lifting operations. Course details Course duration: Approximately 4 hours Schedule: Monday through Friday (subject to instructor availability) Language: English or Spanish Training format: Classroom instruction combined with practical discussions and real-world examples. Certificate: Certificate of Completion provided upon successful completion of the course. Certificate validity: Certificate does not expire. Refresher training is recommended periodically to reinforce knowledge, maintain best practices, and ensure continued workplace safety awareness. Attendance verification Participants are required to sign the attendance roster at the beginning of the training session. A signed attendance roster will be provided to the client as part of the training records. Training requirements A minimum of 6 participants is required to schedule a private training session. Class size is limited to a maximum of 40 participants per session to ensure an effective learning experience. Training location Training may be conducted at your facility or at our training location: IEC Independent Electrical Contractors 8868 Research Boulevard, Suite 500 Austin, TX Training conducted within the Austin area does not incur additional travel charges. For locations outside the Austin area, applicable mileage and, when required, hotel accommodations for the instructor will apply. A classroom rental fee of $200 per training day applies only when training is held at the IEC training facility. Customized training This course may be customized to address your company's specific operations, lifting activities, workplace hazards, and project requirements.
