Course overview Our Fall Protection Safety Competent Person training is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to identify fall hazards, evaluate fall protection systems, and implement appropriate safety measures for workers performing tasks at heights. The course focuses on OSHA requirements, fall hazard assessment, proper selection and use of fall protection systems, equipment inspection, safe work practices, and the responsibilities of a Competent Person. Through classroom instruction and hands-on training, participants will learn how to recognize and evaluate fall hazards, inspect fall protection equipment and systems, identify deficiencies, and implement appropriate corrective measures. The training also emphasizes the Competent Person’s role in supervising fall protection activities, addressing unsafe conditions, and ensuring that workers follow established safety procedures. Falls are one of the leading causes of serious injuries and fatalities in the construction industry. Effective fall protection requires more than simply providing workers with equipment. A Competent Person must be able to recognize fall hazards, evaluate existing conditions, identify deficiencies, and take prompt corrective action when necessary. This training helps participants develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to fulfill their responsibilities as a Competent Person and effectively manage fall protection activities. The course emphasizes hazard assessment, proper system selection and use, equipment inspection, corrective actions, worker safety, and emergency preparedness. Course details Duration: 8 hours Schedule: Monday–Friday, subject to instructor availability Language: English or Spanish Training format: Classroom instruction, hands-on training, demonstrations, practical applications, and interactive activities Assessment: Short assessment to verify participants’ understanding of key fall protection concepts, OSHA requirements, and Competent Person responsibilities Course completion: Certificate of Completion upon successful completion of the required training Attendance verification Participants are required to sign an attendance roster at the beginning of the training. The completed and signed roster can be provided to the client as part of their training records. Training requirements Minimum of 6 participants for a private training session Maximum of 40 participants per session Participants must attend and successfully complete the required training and assessment Participants must actively participate in the hands-on portion of the training Training location Training may be conducted at the client’s facility or at: IEC Independent Electrical Contractors 8868 Research Boulevard, Suite 500 Austin, TX A classroom rental fee of $200 applies when the training is conducted at the IEC facility. For training in the Austin area, no travel charges apply. For locations outside the Austin area, mileage and hotel expenses may apply. Customized training Training can be coordinated around the client’s project schedule and workforce needs. Additional emphasis can be placed on specific fall hazards, fall protection systems, equipment, work-at-height activities, and Competent Person responsibilities relevant to the project and work being performed.
